Sean Fitzgerald

My name is Sean Fitzgerald, and I am 26 years old.

I have been dancing for 21 years. I started when I was 5 years old at Inishfree School of Irish Dance. I have been teaching children for the past 6 years at Deirdre O’Mara School of Irish Dance in Yonkers.

I have performed with the Celtic Tenors at the Manhattan College. I have also done performances all over the tri-state area. These performances have been at many different venues, primarily for St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.
At the North American Nationals for Irish Dancing (NAN), I was fourth place this past year, and I have been competitive throughout. I was in the top 4 overall for three years in a row: 2009-2011.
I enjoy teaching because I get to teach the history and passion within Irish dancing. It is the history and culture of the craft that was passed down to me from my parents and teachers. It is for this reason that I love teaching. Showing young people the joy that goes into dancing, as well as the discipline it bestows, allows me to share the art of performance with others.
The thing that I enjoy the most about teaching Irish dancing is seeing the smiles of the children’s faces and letting them have fun and love dancing.
